Over 7,000 euros raised at charity tournament
The Moyo association and Golfclub Abenberg are pleased – money for the construction of school toilets in Malawi
There were plenty of happy faces at the charity tournament held by MOYO e.V. – Ansbach für Malawi at Golfclub Abenberg last Saturday. The organizers as well as the 92 participants were thoroughly pleased with the event. After the end of the evening gala, the Moyo association can now celebrate around 7,000 euros in donations, all of which will go toward the construction of school toilets in the East African country of Malawi.
“Perfect golf weather, motivated teams, and a fantastic evening event – it couldn’t have gone any better!” is how head organizer and golf club manager Michael Schalt sums up the day. The event had started with a helicopter flight over the course and, after a shared dinner with live music, reached its high point in a spectacular auction.
For the evening event, which was atmospherically accompanied by Würzburg guitarist and singer Adrian Lieb, several regional companies had donated high-quality prizes for an auction. The auction brought in a total of around 2,500 euros for the good cause.
Schalt had approached the volunteers of the Moyo association, which he knows well, with the idea back in June. “I have known Moyo’s work almost since the association was founded, and I think what they accomplish is fantastic,” says Schalt. He was certain that a tournament in support of this project would meet with great interest among the association’s members and friends. And he turned out to be right – in the end, just under 100 interested players took part in the Texas Scramble on the Abenberg golf course.
The high-quality prizes for the winners were likewise provided by sponsors, and the winners could be pleased with outstanding results. True to the motto “play golf and do some good,” however, the focus was more on the charitable cause than on the game of golf itself.
