MOYO e.V., together with the Mulanje Mission Hospital, is deeply committed to improving living conditions in Malawi through the Sustainable Livelihood Project, funded by the EZ-Kleinprojektefonds (small-scale development projects fund). The goal is to promote sustainable livelihoods in the Mulanje region and to improve the community’s self-sufficiency. In this way, the villages become sustainably less dependent on international aid projects. The project was supported by MOYO in 2023 and 2024.

Project highlights 2023:

• School agriculture network: In cooperation with the Mulanje Mission Hospital, a school agriculture network was established in 20 primary schools. The aim is to promote hands-on learning and to ensure balanced, nutritious meals prepared from local produce.
• Reforestation and biodiversity: To strengthen biodiversity and ensure long-term food security, fruit tree seedlings, banana cuttings, and seedlings for reforestation were distributed to the community.
• Capacity building: Through training courses in conservation agriculture, home gardening, food processing, and fertilizer production, teachers and community members were trained to expand their knowledge and skills and to promote sustainable practices.

Successes and impact:

• Food security: The introduction of school gardens has helped improve food security at the schools by providing fresh vegetables and fruit.
• Community involvement: The project encourages the active participation of the community, leading to stronger local ownership and sustainability of the initiatives.

This project is an example of how targeted support and local engagement can lead to great change. MOYO e.V. is proud to walk this path of development together with its partners on the ground.
