At the remote Nkondezi Primary School in the Mulanje district, Malawi, the community faces a major challenge: the only well nearby yields nothing but salt water. This forces the students to bring their own drinking water, as well as water for daily hygiene and for preparing school meals, from home. A laborious and unsustainable solution.
But hope is emerging: just three kilometers away, there is a freshwater source. The village community is ready to pitch in and help solve this problem. They have set out to dig a trench for a water pipe from the source to the school with their own hands. What they lack are the necessary materials.
