The differences in surgical practice between Germany and developing countries were the topic of our most recent public talk on March 11, 2016, at the parish center. Our speaker, Dr. Walter Kronenberg, spent several years working as a surgeon in Tanzania himself and was able to give the roughly 30 listeners a good insight into the situation on the ground. To this day, two billion people worldwide lack adequate access to surgical care, and five million die every year as a result of this situation. That makes the work of supporting initiatives all the more important. Encouragingly, the situation has improved considerably in recent years, and the WHO has also recognized the problem. We are hopeful for the future and thank Mr. Kronenberg for the fascinating insights into his work!
